President's Summer Letter - Aug 22
I am delighted to be able to report on a 'normal' summer. Fewer masks and hand-gel and more summer sports and travels.
Many thanks to Janette who organised a very successful golf outing on 11 May at Ratho Park. We didn't let the wind and rain put us off; 3 teams of 4 played the 'Step-Aside Scramble' format introduced by Alison in a previous year. We missed you this year, Alison. Congratulations to the winning team of Jane Bruce, Heather, Tina and Janette's golfing friend, Mary. I'm pleased to report that the golf outing walking team has gone from strength to strength. No longer do we just follow the golfers around! This year we were expertly led along the canal by Maggie, who also generously treated us to tea and scones at the Bridge Inn. We got back to watch a hole or two before we took shelter in the club house with our complimentary drink. The golfers then joined us for a lovely lunch.
Our summer outing was to Abbotsford House in Melrose, Sir Walter Scott's 'Palace of the Imagination'. Expertly organised by Rona who then sadly couldn't join us on the day. Most of us took the train from Waverley and walked along the river to the house, which added to the fun of the day. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made us all want to return to hear more stories about Sir Walter and the house.
The RCCC AGM is being held at Murrayfield on 20 August at 2 pm. Please do go if you can and have your vote on some important issues. You can also vote online, but will need to register first to do so.
The season starts the Opening Bonspiel on 28 September. This is open to all members and reserves. So, dust off your brushes, check and clean your kippers and hopefully I'll see many of you there.
